An influential blogger by the name of June Quan (StirandStyle) and her team brewed up an innovative eatery called “Shrimp Daddy.” Their debut was this past Sunday, November 13th, at Smorgasburg Market in DTLA. Their booth was tucked between dozens of local vendors, but you could easily detect their aloha spirit. Their table was lined with Islander Raffia Grass Skirt, colorful flowers, and menus decorated with pineapples.
Shrimp Daddy’s specialty is Hawaiian Garlic Butter Shrimp that goes hand-in-hand with a scoop of mac salad, rice topped with Furikake (Japanese seasoning), cubes of fresh pineapple, and a cot of cabbage, all perched on a pineapple boat. What is a pineapple boat? Well, it is a pineapple half that has been transformed into a bowl. If your hands are tiny like mine, you will need both to carry it back to the table. If the pineapple boat is too outside the box for you, then no worries; the meal can also be served on a plate. Beware! Their Garlic Shrimp is completely capable of electrifying your taste buds! It is absolutely mouthwatering, scrumptious, buttery, and flavorful. The essence and textures dance so well together. Also, they have fresh Homemade Pineapple Lemonade, which I have yet to try!
Shrimp Daddy started with a bang and ended with a BANG BANG. They proved to have had a very successful launch as they completely sold out on their very first day. Don’t fret if you missed their grand opening; you can still catch them at Smorgasburg Market every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
